Landmark Initiative: 108 Stupas to be Built in a Single Day at Gelephu Mindfulness City
On November 1, 2026, a historic spiritual and architectural event will take place at the Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) in Bhutan: the simultaneous construction and completion of 108 Jangchub Chortens (stupas) in one day.
This ambitious project will be carried out by approximately 40,000 trained volunteers across 108 dedicated sites. The initiative serves as a major milestone for the development of GMC, reflecting both the region's commitment to mindfulness and its immense capacity for community-driven action.
Spiritual Significance
In the Buddhist tradition, the construction of a Chorten is considered one of the most meritorious acts—not only for those who build it, but for every individual who encounters it. This project seeks to foster collective well-being and honor traditional values on a massive, unprecedented scale.
A Call for Global Participation
Given the significant labor and financial resources required for such an endeavor, the Project Coordinators are reaching out to the international community. Individuals and organizations from both within and outside Bhutan are invited to contribute to this monumental task.
"We welcome all those who wish to support this vision and be a part of this extraordinary day," the coordinators stated.
